Well, this is the third week in a row you are being informed of a major Islamic convention is taking place. This time it is the 46th Annual ISNA Convention in Washington DC; taking place from July 3-5 at the Washington DC Convention Center.
According to their website, ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) is an organization 'contributing to the betterment of the Muslim community and society at large', and are '...committed to freedom, to eradicating prejudice, and to creating a society where Muslims can live peacefully and prosper alongside other Americans from all walks of life and diverse traditions and faith.'
Their website also states:
ISNA was founded by Muslims in North America for the purpose of establishing an open, pluralistic platform for presenting Islam, supporting Muslim communities, developing educational, social and outreach programs fostering good relations with other religious communities, civic and service organizations and all levels of government.
The convention, like the one held by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's Jalsa Salana, is an annual event.
The program this year will include events like a National Qira'at Competition, a Meet the Author program, a film festival, an art exhibit, a matrimonial banquet, and much more.
Some of the more prominent guest speakers include Sheikh Hamza Yusuf, Congressman Keith Ellison, and Zaid Shakir.
The program in the past has drawn over 12,000 attendees.
If you are reading this, one thing you should know, though, is that registration is closed as of June 15, so no point in trying to attend this years program. Nevertheless, there is always next year. Sorry.
